Nokia Music initiated an industry-university collaboration aimed at enhancing the user experience of their premium portable speaker, the Nokia 360. To gain a comprehensive understanding of users’ diverse needs and perspectives, we conducted several immersive design research activities.
Firstly, we took the portable speaker on trips from Helsinki to Jyvaskyla, allowing us to observe various music listening environments. We also hosted several home parties and conducted in-depth interviews immediately afterward to gather detailed feedback.
From these research insights, we conceptualized a multi-connection portable speaker that allows simultaneous sharing of audio sources. This concept was developed into a functional prototype, which was then distributed to various participants for further empirical evaluation of the user experience.
